Web design trends change every year, but not all of them actually help small businesses grow.
As a web designer working with businesses in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, and the North Bay, I’ve seen trends come and go. Some improve websites in meaningful ways, while others add complexity without improving results.
In 2026, the most successful websites aren’t the most “high-tech” or visually complex — they’re the ones that are fast, clear, and easy for customers to use.
AI in Website Design: Helpful Tool, Not a Strategy
AI tools are now built into nearly every part of website creation — from writing content to generating layouts and images.
While they can save time, they don’t replace strategy or real-world experience.
A website still needs to clearly communicate:

A stable, well-maintained website often performs better than one redesigned every time trends change.

After more than 25 years working with businesses in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, and the North Bay, one thing has stayed consistent:
Successful websites are not the most complex — they are the clearest.
They:
- Load quickly
- Communicate clearly
- Build trust
- Make it easy to take action
Everything else is secondary.
After a huge surge in AI-generaetd content, the new trend is for more authentic content. This includes design, images, and written copy. In the future, AI is likely to improve in these areas, but it will be hard to replace talking one-on-one with a web designer about your website needs, and seeing it come to fruition.
